Monday, October 31, 2016 at 01:35AM I finally finished Vanitas 9 after a month of trying to figure out how to render the texure of black velvet. I decided to work on just the top of the fabric the strongest light was hitting. Less is more.

Vanitas drawing, figure darwing, nudes, vanitas art in drawing Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 02:00AM I started a new drawing for Vanitas series a few days ago. Just like the last piece, this is done in pastel on black charcoal paper. The size is 20" x 16". I like this composition a lot. I came up with this final design by collaging 3 different photos together, using the best part of each image.
Line drawing copied onto a sheet of black paper from the composite photo sketch.
After adding a general wash of brown orchre.
The face is pretty much done and I have moved onto the body. At this point, before adding any tonal nuances, I laied down 3 different colors to create the basic skin tones.
Sunday, August 21, 2016 at 01:36AM This drawing is almost finished. It just needs more fine tuning of values of the fabric. It is a large full sheet (22" x 30") drawing in charcoal. I originally thought about mixing other mediums with charcoal but decided not to do it, keeping it straightforward. So far I am satisfied with what I got. Working in charcoal, it was very nice to be able to finish a drawing in a few days instead of a month and half!
