Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:48AM For nearly 3 months I worked on this piece on and off, going through several concept and design changes. In the earlier stage, I was over thinking and trying to pile up too many ideas in this piece. Finally I came to the end result that was much simpler and leaner. I am pretty happy with what I ended up with.
Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 02:58AM This is what the drawing looks like today. I finally made up my mind about the treatment of the background. The original reference photo has just a plain gray background and I found it kind of boring. Then I discovered another photograph of a wall I took in Venice that will work perfectly with this piece. It is very similar to the one I have used for 2 of my Vanitas drawings but from a different location. What would I do without Venice?
Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:14PM I started a new drawing for my Vaniras series. This is Vanitas 27. This is another mixed media drawing of graphite and colored pencils just like Vanitas 25, only there will be more colored pencil elements in it. This is the 4th piece coming out of a reference photo shoot with a model. As far as the number of art works coming out of a single photo session goes, this is very unusual. It just proves that my model Ms. M was so inspiring. I am visualizing this drawing to be about 16" x 18", and it will take another month or so to finish.
Friday, March 6, 2020 at 06:21PM Last night I attended the opening reception of an annual juried show at Bryn Du Art Center, Granville, OH. It was held in this beautiful Mansion from the Arts and Crafts period architecture style. I had 3 Vanitas pieces accepted into this show. One of them "Vanitas 16" won The Best in Show, and "Vanitas 22" was sold too. Not a bad way to start spring!

Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 11:18PM I have been seeing this call for entry advertisement for DRAWN show at MANIFEST Creative Research and Drawing Center. They are using the image of my Vanitas 16 with it, which was included in last year's DRAWN show. I was thinking about not entering this year just because most of my good drawings are currently in a show or going to be in another show soon. But seeing this ad a few times, made me change my mind. I will see what I can find to submit this year...
